Safeguarding
Safeguarding at Haxey CE Primary Academy
School values and commitment
Our school aims to provide all members of the school community with the opportunities to engage with the highest quality of education and encouragement. We are committed to striving for excellence and ensuring that all students are known, valued and can achieve.
School commitment
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone in our school who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. To fulfil this responsibility effectively, all our staff make sure their approach is child-centred meaning at all times we consider what is in the best interests of the child. In this policy, the term ‘child’ or ‘children’ refers to anyone under the age of 18 years. It is important that we create the right culture and environment so that staff feel comfortable to discuss matters both within, and where it is appropriate, outside of the workplace (including online), which may have implications for the safeguarding of children.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children means:
- Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge;
- Protecting children from maltreatment whether that is within or outside the home, including online;
- Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Early Help
Haxey CE Primary Academy works to provide Early Help to those children and families in the school community with emerging needs, which may not be appropriate for Children Services intervention. Early Help means providing support to our children and families as soon as a problem emerges, at any point in a child’s life.
We understand just how complicated family life can be. From time to time, there may be situations where you need some extra help and support. If things are not right at home, please come and talk to us. We can help in many ways.

Site Security
We have stringent management and maintenance of our site to ensure it is safe and secure, this includes management of visitors to our site. All visitors must sign in and wear a visitor badge and be escorted unless they have met our vetting requirements to work in school unsupervised.
Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is an initiative which enhances communication between the police and schools where a child or young person is at risk from domestic abuse. The purpose of the information-sharing is to ensure schools have more information to support the safeguarding of children and young people. By knowing that the child has had this experience, the school is in a better position to understand and be supportive of the child’s needs and possible behaviours. Operation Encompass will complement existing safeguarding procedures. Please see the website for further details:
